WHERE ELLE WANTS TO PARTY

As ELLE South Africa turns 19 this April, we reveal some of the ELLE Belles’ most coveted parties to attend. From a desert festival to a step back in time for some old Hollywood glamour, these are just some of the parties we would love to be part of.

WOODSTOCK, Phetha Motumi, Editorial Intern

My party wish list would have to be Woodstock, 1969, even though it was more of a festival, but I would definitely love to have been there – for the music and Janis Joplin.

PALACE, Emilie Gambade, Editor

I would have loved to be at a party at Le Palace in Paris, circa 1978/1979. It was a nightclub frequented by Yves Saint Laurent, Jean Paul Gaultier, Mick Jagger, Jerry Hall, Grace Jones... It was a place of style, freedom and dancing until the very late hours of the morning.

BLOCK PARTY, Ntombenhle Shezi, Fashion & Features Assistant

If I could, I would go back in time and experience comedian Dave Chappelle’s Block Party, which took place in Brooklyn, New York 10 years ago. The party, which played tribute to the late producer J Dilla, included Kanye West, Mos Def, The Fugees, Jill Scott, Erykah Badu and The Roots on the bill. Now that was a dream line-up!

JAY GATSBY SOIRÉE, Maybe Corpaci, Junior Beauty Editor

My dream party would be one of the grandiose Jay Gatsby's parties. Ideal guest - my friend Kara Furter, jewellery brand Matter of Fakt’s owner, deco stylist and businesswoman.

COACHELLA, Nicole Newman, Junior Fashion Editor

For me, it would be Coachella and I would go with Poppy Delevingne.

ANOTHER JAY GATSBY DO, Tarryn Oppel, Senior Fashion Editor

My dream party to attend would be one hosted by Jay Gatsby. The swimming pool, man-made beach, overflowing feast, the music and, of course, the fashion. My dream date? Mr Gatsby of course (the Leonardo DiCaprio version).

PRE-OSCAR BASH, Boiphelo Chababa, Fashion Intern

The annual Pre-Oscars party hosted by Charles Finch and Chanel and my dream date would be Liam Hemsworth.

OUTDOORS FESTIVAL, Tidi Benbenisti, Assistant Editor Print

It’s a tight race between Israel’s first Burning Man festival – aptly named MidBurn (midbar = Hebrew for desert; and English burn) – in the Negev, or the annual BPM Festival in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. And either or both parties would be complete with besties alongside me.
