While some of the designers at Lagos Fashion Week struggled to produce a standard collection this season, and some thrived on mere hype, others surprised us with beautiful unforgettable clothes. On the bright side, there was a sense of individuality in some of the collections and models. There was also a sense of being more grounded as a majority of the designers made a conscious effort to create clothes that will live beyond the runway, proving that art and commerce can coexist. And then, rather than looking out for inspiration, designers like Maki Oh, Lisa Folawiyo, Iamisigo, and Nkwo looked within, drawing from the rich African history. In Iamisigo's case, it was a celebration of the traditional masquerades while Nkwo, having lost two of her most skilled artisans to illegal immigration, focused on the plight of illegal immigrants. To celebrate some of these African creatives, we bring you 10 of our standout collections from the bunch!
