Being exposed to the male-dominated music industry, music industry power player and Lola Media Group CEO, Lola Plaku has been through it all. However, in rising above, she's understood the importance of female empowerment and the importance of women within her industry, and is here to celebrate that with PUMA and the NOVA GRL PWR sneaker she designed, the first of her involvement with PUMA.
In two colourways, Black–Surf the Web and Peach Bud–Pearl Blush, the new sneaker (dropping on 1 Feb!) is reminiscent of a 90's silhouette with colorful bursts and the all important "GRL PWR" slogan. It's feminine (but without the usual expected frills) and fun, with all the comfort your heart desires.
“Lola is known for spearheading a mission to empower young women, and this partnership pays tribute to her efforts with a Nova sneaker pack aptly titled GRL PWR...Lola inspires others to create change and push culture forward, making her the perfect co-creator of the new Nova.” Yassine Saidi, PUMA’s Senior Head of Select
The adjacent campaign, art directed by Lola, features upcoming powerful female musicians Bambii Azan, Enisa, Lauren Ledford and Marz Lovejoy and is shot by photographers Jay Jackson and Lexis Rother and styled by Bobby Bowen.
Along with this campaign with the sportswear giant, Lola also runs GIRL CONNECTED, a mentorship programme which helps women interested in getting into the industry by uniting them with her colleagues in order for them to learn various elements of the music business. Events were run last year in London, New York, Atlanta and Toronto with the full GIRL CONNECTED program launching later this year. Another launch to look forward to is her second drop for the PUMA NOVA, in March this year.
The PUMA Nova GRL PWR, retailing for R1 799, will be available from 1 February 2019 at PUMA SELECT, X-Trend, Archive, The Office, Superbalist and selected retailers, and we can't wait to get our hands on a pair!
