Vogue got the full backstory many were wondering about: How did Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas meet and get together? Was their courtship really as quick and fast as it seemed, with them getting engaged two months after they started dating? The answer is yes—and no.Priyanka and Nick actually started talking in September 2016, before they went as each other's Met Gala dates in May 2017. They didn't start truly dating until May 2018, though.
Nick made the first move, the two told Vogue, by DMing Priyanka on Twitter. He wrote,"I’m hearing from a few mutual friends that we should meet," on September 8, 2016.
“She responded day of with a message that said, ‘My team can read this. Why don’t you just text me,’” Nick said. Their texting became what Vogue called an "epic correspondence." Nick said it was “friendly with an eye toward flirtation.” Then in 2017, they met at the Vanity Fair Oscars After Party. He was at the bar, he saw her, “and I put my drink down,” Jonas said. "Get on one knee—this is in front of a bunch of people—and I say, ‘You’re real. Where have you been all my life?’ Like, loud.”

Months passed, and in May 2017, the two got a drink before they went to the Met Gala as each other's date for designer Ralph Lauren. They went to Priyanka's apartment after, where her mother was, and "hung out for a couple of hours," Priyanka said. “He patted my back before he left.”
Nick purposely didn't kiss her, because her mom was there. “I thought it was a respectful first night," he told an incredulous Priyanka ("It was too respectful if you ask me") and Vogue's reporter.

Then they didn't see each other for a year, until this year's Met Gala in May. The couple tells Vogue that Nick invited Priyanka to a Beauty and the Beast live performance, then a Dodgers game during Memorial Day weekend. That's when the tabloids first started reporting that Chonas was a thing, too. And that's when, Vogue reports, Nick called his mom and informed her that he was going to marry Chopra, after "date three," as he put it.

Nick took Priyanka to Crete, where he proposed on the midnight after her birthday, July 19. “I got down on one knee, again, and I said: Will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?” Nick told Vogue. “No joke—she took about 45 seconds. Forty-five seconds of silence.” Priyanka was speechless, by her own account. So Nick then told her, "I’m going to put this ring on your finger now unless you have any objections.” The two are now getting married this weekend. Vogue got more insight from them on the lead-up to their wedding and their engagement ceremony, which you can read here.
