This year New York Fashion Week is spicing things up by introducing its first plus-size range.

A plus-sized advocate for years, Eden Miller will be showing for the first time at New York Fashion Week. One of six designers chosen by The Fashion Law Institute to showcase her collection, Miller is enjoying a fair amount of media attention – and feeling the pressure. ‘There’s a certain amount of pressure to show this is still high fashion, that this is part of the fabric of the fashion world as it is now, in 2013,’ says the designer.

Previously, plus-sized shows have remained separate, but it seems the landscape of fashion is changing. Recently, Ralph Lauren cast their first-ever plus-sized model, Robyn Lawley, in a campaign and another plus-sized model, Jennie Runk, starred in H&M’s summer swimwear campaign.

The fashion community has certainly noticed the change. Miller says that people are ‘excited for me. I think they’re also flabbergasted. There are a lot of questions about it. I just think that nobody quite knows what’s gonna happen.’

Eventually, she hopes that the presence of plus-sized models will become a ‘non-issue’ and that it will be viewed ‘just as the other offerings at fashion week.’

Would you like to see more plus sized clothing on the runways?
