But last night’s MTV TRL show is proof of the leadership the world needs right now
Yes, former US First Lady Michelle Obama is serving leadership on a platter or via a public service announcement (PSA) as part of MTV’s TRL (Total Request Live) platform (can you believe it's back?).
In yesterday’s show, which took on a different slant and still using the same acronym – Tuition Request Live – Michelle schooled students on other ways to pay for education, highlight FAFSA (Free Application For Student Aid).
This is not the first time Obama has collaborated with MTV on the importance of higher education. In May, she took the stage at New York’s The Public Theatre with more than 200 high school students present as part of MTV’s National College Signing Day. While sharing life wisdom, ‘Our belief in the power of education to transform your life is real and it’s going to be at the core of everything we do going forward’, she also called on some high profile friends to inspire the next gen of student and future leaders.
A graduate of Harvard Law School, Michelle helped her eldest daughter Malia settle into her new college life earlier this year at Harvard, too, which former US President Barack Obama noted was emotional.
In September, MTV invited students to sign up online for its Get Schooled Scholarship competition, offering five lucky students a US$20 000 scholarship each.
