Hair accessories were very prominent on the Autumn/Winter 2012 catwalks and will stay with us throughout spring this year. We love how they work so hard for us – fixing a bad hair day, adding instant glamour, or even making an otherwise dull outfit interesting and fashion-forward. Whether you sport a pixie crop, a layered mane or you are the girl that always wears her hair up, there is a fabulous hair accessory for you!
Note the plural of the word. As seen at Cacharel, the way to wear barrettes or slides is stacked neatly close to each other and in a pop of bold colour. Keep them to the side, framing your face, and accessorise them with beautiful bold lips to finish the look.
Jewels and headbands
Dolce & Gabbana’s version of the Italian Renaissance! This trend is all about more is more so stay away from subtlety and make sure your headband is of gothic-princess proportions. A bold and beautiful statement that will look best with feminine make-up and sleek, simple tailoring to keep the focus on the hairpiece.
The Cloche Hat
Words that come to mind are romantic, beautiful and vintage… The ’20s-inspired cloche hat is best worn with a low ponytail or bun to stay on-trend. This feminine statement looks fantastic with mannish tailoring or a cute androgynous style to balance it out.
The new bandeau
We have a weakness for this deliciously rebel trend! As seen at Sonia Rykiel, the bandeau is back and has definitely moved from the tennis court to grungy hipster chic. It would look fantastic with a loose sideways plait.
Bows and bouffant hairstyles
As seen at Louis Vuitton, an array of pretty girls sashayed demurely, bows in their bouffant hairstyles, reminiscent of the ’60s. Wear your bow with a voluminous, slightly messy beehive, lashings of black mascara and a slick of liquid eyeliner. How retro!
The accessorised low ponytail
We absolutely love the low ponytail; it is always elegant and is so quick and easy! Choose sleek or tousled styles, with a middle or side parting, depending on your hair texture. Accessorise with pretty velvet and satin ribbons as seen at Etro, or oversized pearl-coloured baubles as seen at Chanel.
