Calvin Klein, a name eponymous with minimalistic fashion, clean lines, and his and hers fragrances is, after more than 40 years in the fashion industry, venturing into the world of beauty with the launch of their make-up range.
CK One Colour range, whose mantra is ‘look real, define yourself, add intensity’, is all about self-exploration, not dramatic transformation. The packaging is slick and monochromatic with a sporty twist. There is something for everyone, from dark smouldering hues to warm golds and browns boldly interrupted by pops of pink, green and yellow.
As a make-up artist, my winning product is hands down the 3-in-1 foundation, which boasts a serum, a primer and a foundation. Somewhat of a breakthrough product, this foundation has a lovely satin finish and comes in over eight shades. Another winner is the mascara with a turn-up function that changes the bristles of the brush, delivering a different lash effect each time. One twist of the wand takes your lashes from long and defined to thick and luscious, and best of all, there are five colours to choose from.
The brand has associated itself with industry leading make-up artists Jodie Boland, Hung Vanngo and Kristi Matamoros who together boast a long list of celebrity clients. They also have ‘CK One Insiders’, namely American musician Dev, British DJ and model Bip Ling and graffiti artist Miss 163, all of whom are a representation of the cool and authentic positioning of the brand.
The range is currently available at the Edgars Sandton branch in Johannesburg, it will be released at selected Edgars branches in Cape Town in December and in Durban, next year April.
